Jokowi forms Baparekraf under the Tourism and Creative Economy MinistryThe President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, generally known as Jokowi, officially formed Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Baparekraf). The agency will be within the responsibility of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. Formerly, the agency was named the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf).
The formation is stipulated in the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 70 of 2019 regarding Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, signed by the Indonesian President on 24 October. As the new Perpres will run into effect, it cancels Perpres No. 93 of 2017 regarding the Tourism Ministry and Perpres No. 72 of 2015 regarding the Creative Economy Agency.
Written in the first article of the Perpres, the Baparekraf is a “Non-Ministerial Government Agency” under the guidance and responsible directly to the President of Indonesia.
Baparekraf will be headed by the current Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Wishnutama, as written in the sixth article of the Perpres. For the deputy, the post will be appointed to Angela Tanoesoedibjo as the Deputy Minister.
The functions of Baparekraf are as following: to formulate and regulate provisions for institutional and industrial development, to develop Indonesian tourism and its marketing, to plan and implement provisions and programs of the creative economy in the form of art, communication, and information technology.
Baparekraf is also responsible to implement development and pioneering provisions to improve the top 10 tourist destinations in Indonesia.
